Two More Pitt Records Set at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio—The Pitt swimming & diving teams continued to produce dynamic performances on the second day of the Ohio State Invitational on Saturday, resulting in seven more A-Finalist qualifications and another pair of school records.
After posting a Pitt record in the 200-yard IM on Friday, men's swimmer Samy Helmbacher once again made history Saturday evening as the sophomore from France broke Zach Lierley's school record in the 400-yard IM. Helmbacher's final time of 3:45.80 was the best in Pitt history in the event and earned him another podium finish—third place—at one of college swimming's premier fall meets.
The Pitt women's 800-yard free relay team, comprised of Rachel Brown, Valerie Daigneault, Shahar Menahem and Amanda Richey also set a school record of 7:14.27 to place fourth in the event, besting the previous Pitt all-time best from the 2014 ACC Championships.
Also earning top-three individual finishes for the Panthers were women's seniors Meme Sharp and Lina Rathsack. For the second straight evening, Sharp excelled in diving to place second; on Saturday, she earned the runner-up finish on 1-meter springboard by scoring 288.85 points. Meanwhile, Rathsack took third in the 100-yard breast with a finals time of 1:00.48.
Other Pitt A-Finalists today at the Ohio State Invitational included Brian Lovasik (5th, 1:37.28) and Armin Remenyi (10th, 1:37.88) in the 200 free, Brian Ramsey (6th, 54.68) in the 100 breast and Amanda Richey (9th, 4:18.36) in the 400 IM.
Furthermore, several other Panthers impressed with top-20 finishes by qualifying for Saturday evening's B Finals while competing against the likes of NC State, Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Yale and many more.
Valerie Daigneault won the B Final in the 200 free in 1:47.82 to place 11th and finished 14th in the 100 back as well with a time of 54.25. Bence Szucsik also triumphed in the 100 back B Final to take 11th with a mark of 48.40 and finished 16th in the 100 fly in 48.72. Boris Kulizhnikov placed 12th in the 400 IM in 3:52.91, John Fauteux garnered 16th in the 100 breast in 55.58, Rathsack placed 17th in the 100 fly with a time of 55.34 and Sarah Giamber took 18th in the 400 IM in 4:21.24.
Pitt's efforts in diving weren't limited to Sharp's success. Freshman Noah Marble finished 19th on men's 1-meter springboard with a score of 257.95, while sophomore Krista Jones also earned a top-20 finish on the women's 3-meter, placing 19th with 224.35 points.
Joining the Pitt women's 800 free relay team in producing an impressive result, the men's 800 free relay also placed fourth with a time of 6:29.33.
After the second day of the Ohio State Invitational, the Pitt women's team is holding steady in sixth place with 187 points, while the men's squad leapt over Penn State and West Virginia on Saturday and now sits in sixth place as well with 192 points.
The Panthers will finish up action at the Ohio State Invitational tomorrow with another packed schedule, which begins at 10 a.m. with more preliminary events before finals continue at 4 p.m. The 1,650-yard freestyle is set to begin at 12:30 p.m., while platform diving is scheduled for 1 p.m.
