PITTSBURGH – University of Pittsburgh student-athletes Stephanie Williams and Quadree Henderson were named First National Bank Student-Athletes of the Week, announced Tuesday.
Williams, a sophomore, was outstanding offensively this week for Pitt volleyball (17-6, 10-2 ACC), tallying 3.29 kills per set after putting away 23 kills. The Eastlake, Ohio, native hit at a .288 clip on the weekend. At the service line, Williams finished with four aces, while tallying 14 digs (2.00/set). She started the weekend with a 10-kill performance against Louisville Friday evening. She hit .273 on the match after committing just four errors in 22 attempts. Williams dug up three balls in the game. Against Notre Dame Sunday, Williams tallied a double-double after posting 13 kills and 11 digs. She hit .300 on the match, while being the Panthers' top server with four aces.
Henderson, a junior all-purpose player, once again showcased his explosive ability for Pitt football (4-5, 2-3 ACC) as a return specialist with a 75-yard punt return touchdown against Virginia. Eluding numerous defenders on the way down the right sideline, his TD gave Pitt a commanding 21-0 lead in the second quarter, ultimately pushing the Panthers past the visiting Cavaliers, 31-14. It was the third punt return touchdown of Henderson's career (second of 2017) and his seventh kick return touchdown overall (he has four career kickoff return TDs). Henderson is just one kick return touchdown shy of the national mark of eight held by nine different players, including Clemson's C.J. Spiller (one punt and seven kickoffs from 2006-09). For his efforts, Henderson was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Specialist of the Week.
Pitt volleyball will host the Floridian ACC teams this weekend, starting with Miami Friday at 7 p.m. and following with Florida State Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played at Fitzgerald Field House and will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
Panther football is open this week before hosting Coastal Division foe North Carolina at Heinz Field Thursday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. The game will be nationally televised by ESPN. For tickets, visit PittsburghPanthers.com or call (800) 643-PITT (7488).
