Athletics Department Seeks Donations for Rehabilitation Equipment
DONATE
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh Athletics Department has announced the launch of a campaign designed to raise money for an Alter G machine to be utilized by student-athletes recovering from lower body injuries.
This campaign marks the first crowdfund effort by Pitt Athletics, in collaboration with Pitt's Office of Institutional Advancement.
"It's on us to take the best care of our student-athletes," Director of Athletics Heather Lyke said. "We already have world class medical and athletic training personnel, but we need your help to have the best equipment in the country."
The project aims to raise $85,000 for the machine through EngagePitt™, the Athletics Department's crowdfunding website, which allows donors to give directly to the cause online. All gifts are tax deductible and allow for the donor to accrue priority points. The project will last through Thursday, Nov. 30.
"The Alter G would be a great tool for the University of Pittsburgh," Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Tyler Carpenter said. "As we continue to strive to compete at the highest competitive level, the Alter G is extremely important both for the performance and for the rehab aspect."
Alter G brand is widely recognized as the finest rehabilitation equipment in the country. Combined with the staff who provide exceptional care, the device will elevate Pitt Athletics' ability to support student-athletes as they recover, and get back to competition for ACC and NCAA Championships.
"Acquiring a type of equipment like this will have an impact on our whole student-athlete population," Executive Associate Athletic Director for Coaches and Performance Tony Salesi said. "I think that is my goal, that every student-athlete here walks away and feels like they were taken care of as well as they could possibly be taken care of."
By donating, supporters will help Pitt student-athletes get back on the court, field, or mat sooner. After making a gift, donors are encouraged to share their generosity on social media to spread awareness in helping Pitt reach its goal of acquiring an Alter G.
Funds generated over the $85,000 goal will go towards the Pitt Athletics Performance Team Excellence Fund, which supports the department's most critical services – strength, conditioning and athletic training areas.
