Cregan Earns First ACC Weekly Honor in Program History
ACC Release
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Bryce Cregan was named ACC Defender of the Week after a historic week for the Pitt men's soccer team, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Cregan and the Panthers are coming off back-to-back wins over West Virginia and No. 21 Syracuse. The ACC weekly honor is the first in program history since joining the conference in 2013.
As a defender, Cregan played a major role in Pitt's first win last week over the Mountaineers Tuesday, Sept. 26 as they shutout the long-time rival, 7-0. The Panthers' victory marked the first in the Backyard Brawl since 2000 and was the largest win over West Virginia in program history. The defensive line held WVU to just three shots through the 90 minutes.
Cregan and the Pitt defense also had a notable performance on Friday, Sept. 29 as they held off No. 21 Syracuse for the Panthers' first ACC win since joining the conference. The 2-1 win also marked Pitt's first win over a ranked opponent since the 2008 season.
Pitt resumes action Tuesday, Oct. 3 when the team makes the trip to New York, N.Y., to take on Columbia. The non-conference match-up is set to get underway at 7 p.m. at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium.
