PITTSBURGH – Pitt men's and women's basketball celebrated the opening of their 2017-18 seasons with Courtside at the Cathedral, an outdoor tipoff event held Friday evening on Bigelow Boulevard.
As part of Pitt's Homecoming weekend celebration, the event took place in front of the Cathedral of Learning, one of the marquee landmarks at the University of Pittsburgh and in the city. Following the event was the school's annual fireworks and laser show.
Courtside at the Cathedral festivities featured player introductions for the men's and women's basketball teams, a two-ball shooting competition and a slam dunk contest on an outdoor court.
Both the Pitt men's and women's basketball teams will open their 2017-18 regular seasons Friday, Nov. 10. The women will begin at home against Youngstown State at 7 p.m., and the men will be in Annapolis, Md., to take on Navy at 9 p.m. in the Veterans Classic.
Tickets for both squads are available at PittsburghPanthers.com or by calling 1-800-643-PITT (7488).
