Varsity Letter Club to Honor Eight Former Letterwinners

PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh Varsity Letter Club will honor a notable group of eight former Pitt letterwinners Friday, Oct. 7 at the 56th Annual VLC Awards Dinner. The event will be held at the Petersen Events Center at 6 p.m.
The 2016 awardees of distinction include Darryl Baynes (track and field), Peter Billey (football), Sam Clancy (basketball), Rodney Fedorchak (football), Kimberly Green-Goldsborough (track and field), Dan Lecce (Wrestling), Gary Siriano (track and field) and Keith Starr (basketball).
To be eligible, a nominee must have earned a varsity letter in intercollegiate athletics from the University 25 or more years ago.
Since 1961, the Pitt Varsity Letter Club has honored members who have distinguished themselves in their profession or community and who, by their accomplishments, have enhanced the value of the intercollegiate athletics programs at the University of Pittsburgh.
Darryl Baynes / Track & Field / Class of 1984
- Five-time letterwinner
- Graduated with a degree in chemistry from Pitt in 1994
- Earned his master's degree in science and math education from Wheeling Jesuit University in 2003
- Earned his Ph.D. in science and math education from Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Western Australia in 2015
- Founder and president of MAEA Interactive Science Programs (ISP), the largest science and math outreach company in the nation owned and operated by African Americans
Peter Billey / Football / Class of 1964
- Three-year letterwinner
- Earned a liberal arts degree in pre-dental arts
- Received his DMD in 1968 and post-doctorate in prosthodontics in 1969
- Owner/president/CEO of Right-of-Way Clearing, established in 1969
- Serves on the Board of Trustees of the Laborer's National Pension Fund
- Received the President's Award for Distinguished Service from the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg for helping establish athletic teams to qualify for the NCAA in 2002
Sam Clancy / Basketball / Class of 1981
- Four-year letterwinner
- During his time as a Panther, Clancy became the only Pitt player to score over 1,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds. Clancy still holds the school record for rebounds with 1,342
- Played under Bob Knight in the 1979 Pan American Games while at Pitt
- Drafted by the Phoenix Suns in 1981 and the Seattle Seahawks in 1982
- Played for 13 years in the NFL and USFL
- After retiring from football, Clancy began coaching various football teams around the world
- Clancy is currently the Varsity Letter Club Coordinator with the University of Pittsburgh
Rob Fedorchak / Football / Class of 1970
- Three-year letterwinner
- Graduated with a bachelor of arts degree
- Drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs and Montreal Alouttes in 1974, but decided to pursue his DMD at Pitt
- Upon graduation, Fedorchak served as a captain at Ft. Bragg, N.C., assigned to the 82nd Airborne from 1974-1976
- Fedorchak has been practicing dentistry in the Aliquippa and Moon Township areas for over the past 40 years
Kimberly Green-Goldsborough / Track & Field / Class of 1981
- Four-year letterwinner
- Earned a degree in metallurgical and materials engineering
- Received her master's from Carnegie Mellon in public policy and management in 1986
- Currently works for the Environmental Protection Agency as an Environmental Protection Specialist
- Green-Goldsborough has won the EPA Special Achievement Award over 10 times, as well as the EPA Bronze Medal for Commendable Service on seven occasions
Dan Lecce / Wrestling / Class of 1984
- One-year letterwinner
- Commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in 1986
- Received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1987
- Earned his Master of Laws degree from the Judge Advocate General of the Army School in 1997
- Colonel Lecce currently serves as the Assistant Judge Advocate General of the Navy, Military Justice where he is responsible for the management of appellate litigation for the Department of the Navy
- His personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal. He is also a member of the Pennsylvania Bar, the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Gary Siriano / Track & Field / Class of 1980
- Eight-time letterwinner
- Graduated from Pitt with a degree in economics
- Finished 26th at the 1979 NCAA Cross Country Championships and seventh in the two mile relay at the 1980 NCAA indoor track championships.
- School record holder in the 3,000-meter run (indoor) and distance medley relay (outdoor)
- Served as an alternate at the Los Angeles Olympics after a top performance at the 1984 U.S. Olympic trials in the marathon
- Siriano currently runs his own consultancy company, Advanced Footwear Consulting, where he works with startups, legal and investment firms associated with the athletic footwear industry
Keith Starr / Basketball / Class of 1976
- Four-year letterwinner
- Drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 1976
- Graduated with a degree in business in 1976
- Inducted into the Pittsburgh Hall of Fame in 2015
- Enjoyed multiple coaching stints at the collegiate level
- Starr has been a State Farm Agent since 1992 and owns a branch in Las Vegas, where he has won awards such as the Silver Scroll and Legion Honor
