GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Senior sprinter Chris Tate and freshman javelin thrower Grant Jones set huge personal records to highlight the opening day of the Florida Relays at James G. Pressly Stadium.
Heading into the meet with a previous PR of 21.53 in the 200 meter dash which he set last indoor season, Tate improved that by almost a half second with a time of 21.17 in his first outdoor 200 meter dash of the season.
Tate was the seventh collegiate finisher in the race and the 21st overall as the Florida Relays feature many professional athletes running unattached.
In his second career meet, Jones threw a career-best 64.01m in the javelin to finish fifth collegiately and sixth overall.
Jones' first throw of the day went 64.01m and it helped him win Flight 1 (of two) which moved him into the nine-person final sitting in sixth with three additional throws remaining.
