PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh men’s basketball team travels to Newark, N.J. to face in-state foe Penn State Saturday, Dec. 10 in the Never Forget Tribute Classic. PantherVision’s Casey Garrow caught up with head coach Kevin Stallings before the road trip to talk about the team’s progress, what they need to do against the Nittany Lions and the honor of playing in this event.
The Never Forget Tribute Classic, also featuring a matchup between Notre Dame and Villanova, is partnered with the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund, which helps support the education of children of the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
Pitt and Penn State are playing on the hardwood for the 147th time overall but for just the second time this decade. The Panthers trail in the all-time series 75-71, but have won the past six meetings. In that stretch, Pitt has a +23.0 scoring margin and has won four of the six contests by 20 or more points.
Saturday’s matchup is slated to tip at 2:30 p.m. from the Prudential Center with CBS Sports Network televising the contest.
