STILLWATER, Okla. - The 21st-ranked Pitt wrestling team (3-2) fell, 39-0, to the top-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys (4-0) Sunday afternoon in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
"I knew it was going to be a big challenge for us but I hope our guys grow from this experience," head coach Jason Peters said. "We have a good team, but Oklahoma State has a great team and they exposed our weaknesses today. We will head home and continue to work hard and improve."
The Cowboys won five bouts by major decision and two by technical fall, while three Panthers held Oklahoma State to wins by decision including junior Dom Forys, redshirt freshman Taleb Rahmani and sophomore TeShan Campbell.
In a top-eight battle at 133 pounds, Forys, ranked eighth in the country, suffered his first loss of the season as he dropped a 10-3 decision to No. 6 Kaid Brock. Forys fell behind early as Brock recorded two takedowns and collected four nearfall points. Escaping twice in the opening frame, Forys trailed 6-2 entering the second period. Forys would escape once more for his final point of the match.
Rahmani had an impressive performance at 157 pounds in his first dual appearance of the season against OSU's Jonce Blaylock. Rahmani was taken down to open the first, but a reversal and two takedowns would give him a 6-5 lead at the end of the period. Blaylock escaped to open the second, but a Rahmani scored a quick takedown taking an 8-6 lead. Blaylock then escaped and took down Rahmani, but Rahmani escaped again to tie it 9-9 entering the third period. Starting on bottom entering the final frame, Rahmani escaped but was taken down late in the third. Blaylock took an 11-10 lead with under a minute left in the third. With time expiring it looked like Rahmani reversed Blaylock, but the called was waved and Blaylock came out with a 12-10 decision with riding time.
In another top-20 match-up at 165 pounds, Campbell, ranked 13th in the country, dropped a 10-6 decision to No. 4 Chandler Rogers. Campbell was off to a great start, collecting points off of a reversal and four off of a nearfall and led 6-4 entering the second. However, Rogers earned two points off Campbell's stall warnings as well as an escape, takedown and earned one more with riding time to secure the win.
The Panthers resume action Sunday, Dec. 11, when they host West Virginia in the Fitzgerald Field House at 2 p.m.
