PHILADELPHIA – The Pitt wrestling team earned a runner-up finish at the 2016 Keystone Classic Sunday hosted by the University of Pennsylvania in The Palestra, while junior Dom Forys earned his third individual title.
The Panthers, who claimed the team title a year ago, finished with 121.5 behind Penn State who finished with 210 points. Pitt last earned a runner-up finish in 2008 and finished fourth in 2014 and 2013.
Sophomore TeShan Campbell earned a second place finish at 165 pounds, while sophomore LJ Bentley (125 pounds), senior Mikey Racciato (149 pounds) and redshirt freshman Taleb Rahmani (157 pounds) all placed third in their respective weight classes.
Forys, the No. 1 seed at 133 pounds and ranks No. 8 by InterMat, jumped right into the quarterfinals. He pinned Anthony Canfora of Drexel in 4:21, his first of the season. In the semifinals, Forys once again won by bonus points, this time by way of a major decision, 17-9, over Colby Smith of Appalachian State. In his final match of the day, Forys defeated Kevin Devoy of Drexel, 8-3, en route to his third Keystone Classic title.
Campbell, the No. 2 seed at 165 pounds, impressed yet again today. The Pittsburgh native posted back-to-back technical falls in the round of 16 and quarterfinal, respectively. Campbell followed those wins with a 7-4 victory over Forrest Przybysz of Appalachian State in the semifinals. In the final, Campbell faced fellow Pittsburgh native Vincenzo Joseph of Penn State and dropped a 9-5 decision.
