PITTSBURGH—Pitt senior defensive end Ejuan Price has been named a semifinalist for the prestigious Chuck Bednarik Award, annually presented to the “Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year” by the Maxwell Football Club.
Price (Rankin, Pa./Woodland Hills) is one of 18 players named to the semifinalist list. Three finalists will be named on November 22 and the winner will be announced as part of ESPN’s The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 8.
Price is arguably the most disruptive defensive lineman in college football. He ranks first in the nation in tackles for loss (2.0 per game), second in sacks (1.13 per game) and 15th in forced fumbles (0.38 per game).
Half of Price's 32 tackles this season have been behind the line of scrimmage. He has totaled 16 TFLs, nine sacks, nine quarterback hurries and three forced fumbles on the year.
This is the latest recognition for Price, who previously was named a “Midseason All-American” by no fewer than five national media outlets. He is also a frontrunner for ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
Former Pitt star Aaron Donald won the 2013 Chuck Bednarik Award, one of four national awards he received following his senior season. A first-round draft selection by the Rams in 2014, Donald is now considered one of the most dominant defensive players in the NFL.
The Panthers (5-3, 2-2 ACC) play at Miami (4-4, 1-3) this Saturday at 12:30 p.m. The game will be televised by the ACC Network and shown locally on WTAE-TV, Channel 4.
