Panthers Fall in Regular Season Finale

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Pitt men's soccer team (2-12-3, 0-6-2 ACC) fell 2-1 Friday night at Thompson Field to No. 23 Virginia Tech (10-4-3, 3-4-1 ACC) in the final regular season game of 2016.
The Hokies struck first in the 31st minute and again in the 74th. Pitt netted its lone goal in the 87th minute.
Virginia Tech out-shot the Panthers 20-5, while corners were an even 5-5. Freshman goalkeeper Jacob Rooth played the full 90 minutes and made seven saves.
Humberto Montero of Virginia Tech put in the first goal of the night. VT's Gino Rossi tacked on the second from 23 yards out.
In the 87th minute, the Panthers drew a penalty kick that was put in by senior Matt Venanzi.
Pitt resumes action Wednesday, Nov. 2 in the first round of the ACC tournament. The opponent and campus site is yet to be determined.
