Panthers Face Saint Mary's (CA) Monday

PITTSBURGH - The Pitt men's soccer team (2-6-2, 0-3-1 ACC) is set to host Saint Mary's (CA) (3-5-3, 0-0-0 WCC) Monday, Oct. 3 at Ambrose Urbanic Field in the Petersen Sports Complex. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.

THE SERIES
- The Panthers and Gaels clash for the first time Monday.
LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt dropped a hard-fought 2-0 battle to No. 2 Notre Dame Friday, Sept. 30 in Pittsburgh.
- The Irish struck first in the 22nd minute and the Panther defense held them off until the 87th when they secured the victory.
SCOUTING THE GAELS
- Saint Mary's comes to Pittsburgh after collecting a 2-1 overtime win over No. 17 West Virginia Saturday, Oct. 1.
- The Gaels offense is led by sophomore midfielder Stephen Dougherty with seven points (two goals, three assists) and graduate student Frederick Karman with five points (two goals, one assist).
- 16 different players have contributed points throughout the season.
- In goal, junior Andrew Konstantino has appeared in eight games and has made 32 saves (.696). Freshman Remi Prieur has also seen some minutes in goal as of late and has made 13 saves (.813).

- Freshman Luca Mellor continues to lead the Panthers with six points after scoring his third goal of the season Friday, Sept. 23 at Duke.
- Venanzi (two goals) and junior Roosevelt Angulo (one goal, two assists) have four points apiece, good for second-best on the team.
- Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Mikal Outcalt has appeared in all 10 games and has made 47 saves.
- Pitt's 18-game regular season schedule is highlighted by four matchups against teams ranked in the top 20 of the NSCAA Preseason Poll in North Carolina, Notre Dame, Boston College and Virginia.
- The Panthers enter their fourth season as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
VIDOVICH ENTERS FIRST YEAR
- Head coach Jay Vidovich (274-126-53, 76-54-24 ACC) is in his first year at the helm of the Pitt men's soccer program.
- Vidovich, a two-time NSCAA Coach of the Year honoree, came to Pitt after spending 21 seasons at Wake Forest, which was highlighted by capturing the 2007 NCAA championship.
- Under his regime, Wake Forest won five Atlantic Coast Conference titles, compiling a 76-52-22 mark in one of the nation's most challenging leagues.
LOOKING AHEAD
- Pitt returns to Ambrose Urbanic Field Friday, Oct. 7 to host Boston College. The match will serve as Alumni Night for the men's soccer program.
- The Panthers will then play the following three games on the road before returning to Pittsburgh for the final home game of the season.
