Panthers Face Road Test at NC State

PITTSBURGH - The Pitt men's soccer team (2-9-2, 0-4-1 ACC) travels to Raleigh, N.C., Saturday, Oct. 15, to take on NC State (3-9-0, 0-5-0 ACC) in a 7 p.m. conference match at Dail Soccer Field/Track Complex.

THE SERIES
- The Wolfpack lead the all-time series 2-1-1.
- The teams last met in 2014 that resulted in a 1-1 double overtime draw in Pittsburgh.
- Pitt head coach Jay Vidovich is 17-2-2 all-time against NC State.
LAST TIME OUT
- The Panthers dropped a 1-0 decision to in-state rival Penn State Tuesday, Oct. 11, in University Park.
- The Nittany Lions netted the lone goal of the match in the 41st minute.
- Although suffering a loss, redshirt freshman goalkeeper Mikal Outcalt made 12 saves on the night, including a crucial penalty kick in the 66th minute.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
- NC State enters the weekend on a three-game losing streak. The Wolfpack most recently fell to High Point, 4-3, Tuesday, Oct. 11, in Raleigh.
- Leading the way this season is sophomore midfielder Julius Duchscherer with 13 points (five goals, three assists).
- In goal, redshirt senior Alex McCauley has played in all but one game this season and has made 31 saves (.596) through 990 minutes played.
NEWS & INFO
- Freshman Luca Mellor continues to lead the Panthers with six points after scoring his third goal of the season Friday, Sept. 23, at Duke.
- Senior Matt Venanzi (two goals) and junior Roosevelt Angulo (one goal, two assists) have four points apiece, good for second-best on the team.
- Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Mikal Outcalt has appeared in all 13 games and has made 68 saves (.810). His total saves this season are the most in the ACC.
- The Panthers are in their fourth season as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
VIDOVICH ENTERS FIRST YEAR
- Head coach Jay Vidovich (274-128-53, 76-55-24 ACC) is in his first year at the helm of the Pitt men's soccer program.
- Vidovich, a two-time NSCAA Coach of the Year honoree, came to Pitt after spending 21 seasons at Wake Forest, which was highlighted by capturing the 2007 NCAA championship.
- Under his regime, Wake Forest won five Atlantic Coast Conference titles, compiling a 76-52-22 mark in one of the nation's most challenging leagues.
LOOKING AHEAD
- The Panthers will remain on the road to face Cleveland State Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m.
- Pitt will return to Ambrose Urbanic Field in Pittsburgh Friday, Oct. 21, for its last home game of the season to host Virginia in a 7 p.m. ACC matchup.
