Panthers Travel to Penn State Tuesday

PITTSBURGH - The Pitt men's soccer team (2-8-2, 0-4-1 ACC) is set to travel to University Park, Pa., Tuesday, Oct. 11, to take on in-state rival Penn State (4-6-1, 2-3-0 Big Ten) at Jeffrey Field for a 7 p.m. kick.

THE SERIES
- The Nittany Lions lead all meetings 22-6-3.
- The rivals last met in 1994 at Penn State in a match that resulted in a 4-0 loss for the Panthers.
- The two teams first clashed in 1955 in Pittsburgh.
LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt fell 1-0 to Boston College Friday, Oct. 7, at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
- The Eagles netted the lone goal of the night in the 89th minute after a notable effort by the Panthers.
SCOUTING THE NITTANY LIONS
- Penn State enters the match after suffering a 1-0 loss to then-ranked No. 9 Indiana in Bloomington.
- The Nittany Lions are paced by senior forward and 2015 First Team All-Big Ten selection Connor Maloney with 11 points (four goals, three assists).
- In goal, time has been split between redshirt junior Evan Finney and freshman Arie Ammann. Finney has played and started in six games, while Ammann has played in seven and started six. Both keepers have made 23 saves apiece.

- Freshman Luca Mellor continues to lead the Panthers with six points after scoring his third goal of the season Friday, Sept. 23, at Duke.
- Senior Matt Venanzi (two goals) and junior Roosevelt Angulo (one goal, two assists) have four points apiece, good for second-best on the team.
- Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Mikal Outcalt has appeared in all 12 games and has made 56 saves (.789).
- The Panthers are in their fourth season as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
VIDOVICH ENTERS FIRST YEAR
- Head coach Jay Vidovich (274-128-53, 76-55-24 ACC) is in his first year at the helm of the Pitt men's soccer program.
- Vidovich, a two-time NSCAA Coach of the Year honoree, came to Pitt after spending 21 seasons at Wake Forest, which was highlighted by capturing the 2007 NCAA championship.
- Under his regime, Wake Forest won five Atlantic Coast Conference titles, compiling a 76-52-22 mark in one of the nation's most challenging leagues.
LOOKING AHEAD
- The Panthers remain on the road for their following two matches at NC State (Oct. 15) and Cleveland State (Oct.18), before returning to Pittsburgh to host Virginia (Oct. 21) in the final home game of the season.
