Panthers to Host VMI for Tuesday Night Matchup

PITTSBURGH – The Pitt men’s soccer team (4-3-1, 0-3-0 ACC) is set to face the Virginia Military Institute Keydets (0-8-0, 0-1-0 SoCon) on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Ambrose Urbanic Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Tomorrow’s game will be the first meeting between the Panthers and VMI.
LAST TIME OUT
Pitt enters the non-conference game coming off a 5-0 loss to Syracuse. The Panthers fell to the ACC rival on Friday, Sept. 25, at Syracuse. Senior captain and goalkeeper Dan Lynd collected six saves against the Orange.
DAN’S THE MAN
At the conclusion of Friday’s game, Lynd is now just two saves shy of collecting 200 saves in his career. Lynd’s efforts ranks the Panthers tied for fourth in saves (25) and second in shutouts (5) in the ACC. Individually, the captain leads the conference in shutouts per game (.62), is tied for first in shutouts (5), tied for fourth in saves (24), and also tied for fifth in saves per game (3.00).
SCOUTING VMI
The Keydets are still searching for their first victory of the season after suffering a loss to Furman on Saturday, Sept. 26. VMI is led by senior midfielder Travis Borkey and sophomore midfielder Campbell Wood, who have scored one goal apiece. In goal, senior Alex Guerra has played in all eight games for the Keydets and has made 65 saves this season.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will return to the pitch on Oct. 2, for a Friday night conference match with the North Carolina Tar Heels. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
