PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt men's soccer team (4-2-1, 0-2-0 ACC) continues to look for its first ACC win when it travels to Syracuse (4-2-1, 0-1-1 ACC) on Friday, Sept. 25, for a 7 p.m. kickoff at SU Soccer Stadium.
Friday's matchup will mark the 20th meeting between the two squads. The Panthers hold an 8-7-4 advantage all-time in the series. The last three meetings went in to double overtime, one of which was a Pitt victory at home in 2011 while the other two resulted in ties at Syracuse in 2010 and 2013.
LAST TIME OUT
The Panthers moved back into the win column on Tuesday night after defeating local foe Robert Morris, 2-1, in double overtime. Freshman forward Tobias Marshall-Heyman scored the game-winner thanks to an initial corner kick from senior midfielder Patrick Dixon that found junior midfielder Raj Kahlon in the box. Prior to the win, Pitt had dropped two conference matches to Boston College and Wake Forest.
SCOUTING THE ORANGE
Syracuse enters the weekend coming off a 3-1 win over Binghamton. Three different players scored in the game, including freshman Kamal Miller who netted his first collegiate goal. The Orange are led by junior midfielder Oyvind Alseth, who has tallied three goals thus far. Tied with him is sophomore midfielder Julian Buescher who has earned his six points after recording four assists and one goal. In the net, freshman Austin Aviza has played every minute this season, making 22 saves and posting one shutout.
UP NEXT
The Panthers return to Ambrose Urbanic next Tuesday, Sept. 29, for a 7 p.m. kickoff with VMI before welcoming ACC-foe North Carolina on Friday, Oct. 2.
