- Pitt improved to 16-8 overall and evened its Atlantic Coast Conference record at 5-5 with an 83-77 home league win over Syracuse at Petersen Events Center. Syracuse dropped to 15-8 overall and 6-4 in the ACC.
- The win snapped a three game losing streak to the Orange and pushed Pitt's record to 7-2 against Syracuse in the Petersen Events Center. All-time Pitt is now 40-65. It was the first time that Pitt defeated Syracuse since the two schools joined the ACC.
- In the Jamie Dixon era, Pitt owns an 11-7 record against Syracuse.
- Pitt improved to 205-29 all-time at the Petersen Events Center and 83-26 vs. conference opponents in the arena. The Panthers are now 12-2 at home this year.
- Pitt shot 58.6-percent (17-29) in the second half.
- The Panthers moved to 6-8 this season when trailing at the half after heading to the locker room down 40-38 at intermission.
- The Panthers donned all-black uniforms for the first time in program history as the Petersen Events Center hosted its first-ever "Blackout."
- It was the Panthers' most balanced scoring output of the season as five players reached double-figures for the first time all season and first time since Dec. 14, 2013 vs. Youngstown State - a span of 49 games. Jamel Artis led the way with 20 points, followed by Sheldon Jeter (18), Chris Jones (15), Michael Young (13) and James Robinson (13).
- Jamel Artis and Michael Young both posted double-doubles, marking only the second time all season two Pitt players achieved the feat. The only other time came on Nov. 24, 2014 at Chaminade.
- For Jamel Artis, who finished with a team-leading 20 points, along with 10 rebounds, it was his first career double-double.
- It was the seventh straight game Artis has led the team in scoring and eighth straight contest he scored in double figures. During the seven game stretch, Artis has topped the 20-point plateau five times and is averaging 21.1 points per game. In his last eight games, Artis has now scored 13 points vs. Florida State, 20 points vs. Georgia Tech, 21 points at Duke, 18 points vs. Louisville, 17 points vs. Virginia Tech, 20 points vs. Notre Dame, 32 points vs. Bryant and 20 points vs. Syracuse. Artis has reached double figure scoring in 15 games on the year and 17 contests in his career.
- Michael Young logged his second-straight double-double, the fifth of his career/season. He scored 13 points and added a team-best 11 rebounds.
- Sheldon Jeter made a triumphant return to the court, scoring a career-high 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting in 23 minutes off the bench, netting 15 of his points after the half. It was the most action Jeter has seen since playing 30 minutes at Boston College. Jeter's 18 points was also the most by a Pitt bench player since Josh Newkirk scored 20 as a non-starter against NC State on March 3, 2014.
- Pitt assisted on 22 of its 29 baskets and 14-of-17 in the second half. The 22 assists were two shy of the team season-high set just a week ago against Notre Dame. It also tied the total from the Bryant game last Monday.
- Overall, Pitt finished with a 22:10 assist:turnover ratio, upping its season average from 1.64 to 1.66. The Panthers entered the game ranked fourth in the country in that category. Pitt's 10 turnovers were right at its season average, which ranks ninth nationally.
- The duo of James Robinson and Josh Newkirk combined for nine assists and just two turnovers. In the past three games, Robinson has a 21:3 assist:turnover ratio.
- Chris Jones increased his team-leading 3-point total to 27 by going 3-for-6 on the day. Overall, the team made seven shots from deep, finishing one shy of their season high.
- Pitt's reserves outscored Syracuse's 33 -3. It was only five points lower than the season high from the bench, which came in the season opener against Niagara. Jeter (18 points) and Chris Jones (15) accounted for all 33 bench points.
- Senior guard Cameron Wright exited the game due to a left ankle injury after recording four minutes on the floor. The total was the fewest minutes he's played since his 2015 debut when he played just one minute after returning from injury.
