Pitt at Syracuse • Carrier Dome • Syracuse, N.Y. • February 21, 2015
Pitt 65, Syracuse 61
*The 65-61 win over Syracuse improves Pitt to 18-10 overall and 7-7 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Pitt has now won five of its last seven games with four regular season games remaining: vs. Boston College (Feb. 24), at Wake Forest (March 1), vs. Miami (March 4) and at Florida State (March 7).
*Pitt swept Syracuse in a two-game series for the first time since the 2004-05 season. The Panthers also registered an 83-77 win at the Petersen Events Center on Feb. 7.
*Pitt won at the Carrier Dome for the sixth time in the last eight contests. Pitt improved to 41-65 all-time vs. Syracuse in the 100-year series. Pitt also improved to 11-17 all-time at the Carrier Dome. It marked the 49th time that Pitt played at Syracuse and the Panthers improved to 14-35 in those contests.
*With the win, Jamie Dixon improved to 12-6 all-time vs. Syracuse and 6-2 vs. the Orange at the Carrier Dome. Dixon is also 6-2 vs. the Orange at the Petersen Events Center.
*Pitt shot 50 percent (26-52) in the game. It was the eighth game that Pitt shot 50 percent or better. The Panthers improved to 8-0 on the year when shooting 50 percent or better. Pitt also converted 42.9 percent (6-14) from 3-point range. When shooting 40 percent or better from 3-point range, Pitt is also 8-0. When Pitt outshoots its opponent from 3-point range, it is 10-0.
*Pitt finished with 21 assists on 26 field goals and only seven turnovers. James Robinson led the Panthers with eight assists, while Jamel Artis dished out a career-high seven assists. Pitt registered a stellar 3.00 assist:turnover ratio.
*With his 19-point, five 3-point performance off the bench, Chris Jones tied career-highs for scoring (19 points), 3-point field goals made (5) and field goals (7). Jones scored 14 of his team-high 19 points in the first half and sparked Pitt with four 3-pointers in the first period. In two games against Syracuse this year, Jones has scored 34 points (17.0 ppg.), hit 13-19 field goals, 8-12 3-point field goals and grabbed eight rebounds (4.0 rpg.). He has reached double figure scoring in three of his last five games and in 13 contests in his career/season.
*With 16 points, Jamel Artis registered double figure scoring for the 12th consecutive game, 21st time in his career and 19th time this season. He also dished out a career-high seven assists, grabbed six rebounds and tied a career-high with four offensive rebounds. Artis scored 11 of his 16 points in the second half.
*Michael Young finished the game with 14 points on 6-9 shooting. Young has now reached double figure scoring in 17 of his last 20 games. It was his 22nd double figure scoring game of the year and 27th of his career.
*The Carrier Dome crowd of 30,144 marked the largest crowd Pitt played before this year.
