No. 2 Virginia 61, Pitt 49
*The 61-49 loss to No. 2 Virginia drops Pitt to 17-10 overall and 6-7 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Pitt has now won four of its last six games. Pitt is now 1-7 in road games in 2014-15 with three road contests remaining: at Syracuse (Feb. 21), at Wake Forest (March 1) and at Florida State (March 7).
*Pitt dropped to 2-5 vs. nationally ranked teams on the year. It has wins against Notre Dame (No. 8) and North Carolina (No. 12). Jamie Dixon dropped to 12-11 vs. top-5 ranked opponents, 3-7 vs. top-5 ranked opponents on the road and 23-20 all-time vs. top-10 ranked teams.
*Pitt dropped to 3-8 all-time vs. the nation’s No. 2 ranked team.
*Pitt scored just 49 points, a season-low. Previously, Pitt’s season-low was 50 points at North Carolina State on Jan. 4, 2015.
*Pitt’s 15 points in the first half tied for the fifth fewest points scored in a half in school history.
*Pitt tied a season-low for free throw shooting percentage on the season. Pitt hit just 52.9 percent (9-17) of its free throw attempts in the game. Pitt also shot 52.9 percent from the free throw line at Virginia Tech (9-17).
*Jamel Artis scored a game-high 20 points. It was his seventh career/season 20-point scoring game. He hit a career-high four 3-pointers. Artis reached double figure scoring for the 11th consecutive game, 20th time in his career and 18th time this season.
*For the second consecutive game, Sheldon Jeter reached double figure scoring. It was the first back-to-back double figure scoring performances of the season for Jeter. He finished with 10 points tonight and scored a career-high 22 points vs. North Carolina on Saturday. Jeter has reached double figure scoring in three of the season’s last four games. It was Jeter’s third straight start in a row.
