No. 12 North Carolina at Pitt • Petersen Events Center • Pittsburgh, Pa. • February 14, 2015
Pitt 89, No. 12 North Carolina 76
•Pitt improved to 17-9 overall and 6-6 in the ACC with an 89-76 win over No. 12 ranked North Carolina Saturday at Petersen Events Center. Pitt has now won four of its last five games.
•Pitt put on a stellar offensive display, it’s best of the season. The Panthers surpassed or tied season-highs for points (89), field goal percentage (64.9%), field goals made (37), 3-point field goals made (8), assists (30), 3-point field goal percentage (53.3%) and least turnovers (5).
•Pitt tied a school-record for team assist:turnover ratio with 30 assists and only five turnovers for a 6.00 assist:turnover ratio. It tied the previous mark of 6.00 vs. Colorado (18:3) in last year’s NCAA Tournament on March 20, 2014.
•Pitt’s 30 assists ranked as the third highest total in the Jamie Dixon Era. It also tied for the 10th highest total in school history. The school-record is 34 assists set vs. Cleveland State on Feb. 14, 1974. The 30 assists marked the most-ever against a Roy Williams’ coached team.
•Pitt’s five turnovers rank tied for the sixth fewest turnovers in school history. The school-record is three, set two times.
•Pitt began the game on a 10-0 run.
•Pitt’s 14-point halftime lead (48-34) represented its largest ACC regular season halftime lead of the season. Pitt’s 48 points were the most points scored by the Panthers in a half and in a first half this year.
•Sheldon Jeter finished with a career-high 22 points on a career-high 10-14 field goals and 35 minutes played. It was his first-ever 20-point performance and second double figure outing in three games. He also made his second straight start in a Pitt uniform. Jeter led Pitt in scoring for the first time this year.
•Cameron Wright notched his first-ever career double-double with 15 points (7-11 FG) and 10 assists. His 10 assists marked a career-high. It marked his 35th career and 10th season double figure scoring performance. The 10:0 assist:turnover ratio ranked tied for the fifth-best ball handling performance in school history. The record is held by Levance Field (13:0) vs. Cincinnati on Feb. 14, 2009.
•James Robinson finished the game with 12 points, eight assists and only one turnover. Robinson notched his 29th career and 13th season double figure scoring game.
•Michael Young scored 13 points (6-7 FG) in just 19 minutes of action. It was his 26th career and 21st season double figure scoring game. He has now reached double figures in points in 16 of his last 18 games.
•With his 11 points, Jamel Artis reached double figure scoring for the 10th consecutive game. He also tied a career-high with five assists. He has now reached double figure scoring in 18 career and 17 season games.
•With his 10 points, Chris Jones notched double figure scoring for the 12th time of his career/season. His six assists marked a career-high.
•Pitt defeated North Carolina for the second consecutive game and improved to 3-8 all-time vs. the Tar Heels. It also won its first game over North Carolina in Pittsburgh and improved to 1-3 vs. UNC in Pittsburgh. The last time North Carolina played in Pittsburgh was 20 years ago on Dec. 20, 1995, a 66-49 UNC win at Civic Arena.
