Jamel Artis paced the Panthers with a near triple-double finishing with 18 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, while Michael Young added 15 points and seven rebounds. Sheldon Jeter (11) and Chris Jones (10) came off the bench to also score in double figures.
Jeter scored seven of his 11 points during the decisive run to spur the victory and ignite the crowd. The Beaver Falls, Pa., native had a pair of emphatic dunks and a three-point play late in the contest.
Pitt, No. 25 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, enters the new year 11-1 overall and 1-0 in the ACC. The Panthers conclude non-conference play Saturday, Jan. 2 against Maryland-Eastern Shore (4pm - ESPN3).
