PITTSBURGH -- Checking in as the top moment of the 2015 Pitt football season is the Panthers' fake punt at Syracuse which led to a game-winning field goal as time expired.
With 9:20 remaining and the game tied at 20, the Panthers faced a long field as their drive started at their own 5-yard line.
What ensued was Pitt's signature drive of the season which lasted 19 plays, covering 89 yards and ate up the final 9:20 of the clock as Chris Blewitt kicked a 25-yard field goal as time expired for a 23-20 victory.
The key moment in the drive was Pitt facing a 4th-and-7 at its own 48 with under five minutes remaining. In punt formation, Coach Narduzzi and Special Team Coordinator Andre Powell dialed up a fake which resulted in punter Ryan Winslow completing a pass to linebacker Matt Galambos for 12 yards and a first down.
The Panthers would gain two more first downs as they moved the ball to the SU 6-yard line and called a timeout with three seconds left.
Blewitt connected from 25 yards out for his second straight game winning field goal and the Panthers moved to 6-1 overall.
Pitt is just two days away from taking on No. 21 Navy in the Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman. Kickoff in Annapolis on December 28th is set for 2:30 p.m. on ESPN.
