PRINCETON, N.J. - With an opportunity to qualify for the NCAA National Championship Meet, the University of Pittsburgh men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, hosted by Princeton University this Friday, November 13, at the West Windsor Fields.
The women's 6K race will begin at Noon, followed by the men's 10K race at 1 p.m.
The women's team is one of 30 competing, while the men are one of 28. The Mid-Atlantic region is comprised of schools located in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the Washington D.C. area.
To qualify for the National Championship Meet as a team, the Panthers must finish first or second to earn an automatic bid. Individually, runners can qualify for NCAAs by being one of the top four finishers overall on a non-automatic qualifying team.
After Friday, the NCAA will also select 13 at-large teams from across the nine regions nationwide which increases the total number to 31 teams competing at the NCAA National Championship Meet as well as individual qualifiers.
The top-25 finishers at the Mid-Atlantic Regional will earn All-Region accolades.
It will be familiar territory for Pitt on Friday as the Panthers ran at the Princeton Invitational back in October and had one of their strongest performances as a unit.
The women's team placed third overall (of 24) at Princeton while the men were sixth (of 21). Multiple Pitt runners set personal-bests last time running this course.
The Panthers were last in action at the ACC Championship Meet. Freshman Gillian Schriever paced the women with a 41st place finish, while senior Hillary Boxheimer and sophomore Dee Dee Adams were close behind in 45th and 46th, respectively.
The men were led by junior Chris Montgomery at ACCs, while Billy Cladwell was the team's second finisher and Aaron Lauer third.
