PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh Athletics Ticketing Office is now taking ticket requests for the 2016 Division I Wrestling National Championships. The tournament will take place at Madison Square Garden, The World's Most Famous Arena, on March 17-19 in New York, N.Y.
Pitt wrestling fans can request their NCAA tickets now by filling out the ticketing request form through the Panthers Ticketing Office. Fans can also put in requests by calling 800-643-PITT(7488).
The wrestling NCAA championships will be the Garden's first time hosting a NCAA title since the 1950 Division I basketball tournament.
Since its existence, 11 different Panthers have become national champions. Hugh Peery won the first title for Pitt in 1952 and followed that with two more titles in 1953 and 1954. Ed Peery is the only other Pitt wrestler to become a three-time national champion. The legendary Pat Santoro has been the only one to come close to accomplishing the feat as he captured titles in 1988 and 1989. The most recent national champion was Keith Gavin in 2008. Since then, the Panthers closest glimpse of another national title came a year ago as Tyler Wilps earned a runner-up finish at 174 pounds.
With its long line of history, a new set of Pitt wrestlers are seeking the podium as they begin the long road to Madison Square Garden. The Panthers will compete at the Fitzgerald Field House seven times throughout the 2015-16 campaign and will host some of the top teams in the country. Fans can purchase season and single match tickets online or by calling 800-643-PITT(7488).
