Cross Country Ready for ACC Championship Meet

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Pittsburgh men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to compete at the ACC Cross Country Championship Meet this Friday at the Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla.
The men’s 8K race will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the women’s 6K race at 9:45 a.m. Fans can watch both races live on ESPN3.
Leading the pack for the men’s team will be sophomore Aaron Lauer. Lauer led the Panthers in their last race with a 25th place finish at the Princeton Invitational, which was a new PR and the team’s fastest time of the season (24:36.3).
Including Lauer, all five of Pitt’s top finishers at the Princeton Invite set personal-bests, as well as Wes Roberts, Ryan Hughes, Sebastian Curtin and Billy Caldwell.
The Panthers have stiff competition as Syracuse enters the race ranked No. 2 nationally, followed by No. 7 Virginia, No. 12 NC State and No. 18 Virginia Tech.
The women’s team is also coming off a strong performance in its last race which resulted in a third place overall finish at Princeton.
Sophomore Melanie Vlasic, senior Hillary Boxheimer and freshman Gillian Schriever lead the charge for the Panthers who look for a top-10 finish at the meet this weekend.
Both Vlasic and Schriever have been Pitt’s top finisher on two separate occasions, while both are coming off career-best races at Princeton with Vlasic placing 15th (21:35) and Schriever 17th (21:43.6).
Virginia enters the women’s race ranked seventh nationally. The Cavaliers are followed by No. 8 NC State, No. 16 Syracuse and No. 17 Notre Dame in the national polls.
