POST-GAME NOTES
Pitt at Boston College • Silvio O. Conte Forum • Chestnut Hill, Mass. • January 6, 2015
Pitt 61, Boston College 60 (OT)
•Pitt won its seventh consecutive overtime game and second of the season with a 61-60 win at Boston College. Pitt improves to 11-4 overall and 1-1 in the ACC after 15 games. The Panthers host Clemson in the first of a three-game homestand on Saturday.
•The come-from-behind victory marked the second largest in school history after trailing by 7:00 or less in regulation. Pitt trailed by 10 points (53-43) with 3:04 left in regulation and sent the game into overtime after tying the game, 53-53, at the end of regulation. The largest comeback win after trailing after the 7:00 mark was when Pitt overcame an 11-point deficit (75-64 with 3:49 to go) at Syracuse to win 82-77 on March 1, 2008.
•Pitt also overcame a six-point deficit (53-47) with 1:20 left. That also ranked among Pitt’s all-time best comebacks (tied for third place) to win after trailing by less than 1:30 to go in a game.
•Jamie Dixon improved to 299-100 all-time as a head coach in his 12th year at Pitt. He needs just one more victory to reach the 300-win plateau. When he does achieve his 300th career win, he will hit 300 wins faster than NCAA legends Nolan Richardson, Bob Knight, Dean Smith, Eddie Sutton and John Thompson.
•Pitt’s 22 points in the first half marked the season’s second-lowest scoring output in a half this year. Pitt scored just 20 points in the first half at NC State on Jan. 3, 2015.
•Pitt registered its first road win of the year and is now 1-3 in road games this season. Last year, Pitt put together the ACC’s best road record with a 7-2 record, has now won 10 of its last 15 and 14 of its last 21 road matchups.
•Josh Newkirk finished with 15 points (6-9 FG), seven assists and one turnover. His 15 points marked his fifth double figure game of the season and 10th of his career. Newkirk gave Pitt a 61-60 lead when he drove through the Boston College defense for a layup with five seconds to go in overtime. It was his second career buzzer-beating play as he hit a jumper at the buzzer at Clemson last season.
•Michael Young also finished with 15 points in the game. It marked his seventh consecutive double figure scoring game, 12th of the season and 17th of his career.
•With his 11 points and eight rebounds in 30 minutes played, Sheldon Jeter notched season-highs in all three categories. All 11 of his points were scored in the second half and he hit several clutch shots down the stretch in regulation.
•James Robinson registered a career-high eight rebounds and a career-high eight defensive rebounds. He also finished with eight points in a season-high 39 minutes played.
•Pitt won its eighth straight game against Boston College and 12th in its last 13 meetings. The Panthers improved to 31-17 all-time in 48 contests vs. Boston College and also improved to 11-4 in games played at Conte Forum.
