Pitt at Virginia Tech • Cassell Coliseum • Blacksburg, Va. • January 27, 2015
Virginia Tech 70, Pitt 67 (OT)
•Pitt dropped to 13-8 overall and 3-5 in the ACC with a 70-67 overtime road loss at Virginia Tech. Pitt dropped its third straight game.
•The overtime loss snapped Pitt’s seven-game overtime win streak. Pitt played its third overtime game of the season and previously defeated both Oakland and Boston College in overtime games.
•Virginia Tech converted a Pitt opponent season-high 12 3-point field goals in the game on an opponent season-high tying 27 attempts. Virginia Tech’s Adam Smith hit an opponent season-high of six 3-pointers vs. Pitt.
•Pitt shot a season-low 52.9 percent (9-17) from the free throw line. Its previous season-low was a 58.3 percent (7-12) vs. Holy Cross on Dec. 23, 2014.
•Pitt had been successful on the road. The Panthers, which finished an ACC-best 7-2 on the road last year, has now won 10 of its last 17 road games and 15 of its last 23.
•Jamel Artis finished with his fifth consecutive double figure scoring day leading Pitt with 17 points on 7-13 shooting, two 3-pointers, nine rebounds and four assists. He has now scored 13 points vs. Florida State, 20 points vs. Georgia Tech, 21 points at Duke, 18 points vs. Louisville and 17 points vs. Virginia Tech in a row. Artis has reached double figure scoring in 12 games on the year and 14 contests in his career.
•Cameron Wright scored 14 points on 6-16 shooting with four assists and four rebounds. His 14-point performance marked his seventh double figure scoring game of the year and 31st of his career. He played a season-high 40 minutes, his fourth career 40-minute game.
•With his 12 points, James Robinson reached double figure scoring for the 10th time this year and 26th time in his career. He scored all 12 points in the second half.
•Michael Young led Pitt with 10 rebounds on the evening. It was his fourth double figure rebounding game of his career and season. Young played in a career-high tying 41 minutes.
•Chris Jones played in a career-high 38 minutes. He finished with eight points on 4-9 shooting.
•In head-to-head games against Virginia Tech coach Buzz Williams, Pitt’s Jamie Dixon dropped to 3-4.
•Pitt’s five-game win streak against Virginia Tech was snapped. Pitt fell to 1-3 in games played vs. Virginia Tech in Blacksburg and 6-4 all-time vs. Virginia Tech. Pitt played its second consecutive overtime game vs. Virginia Tech as it defeated the Hokies 62-57 in double overtime last year at the Petersen Events Center.
