POST-GAME NOTES
Florida State at Pitt • Petersen Events Center • February 23, 2014
Florida State 71, Pitt 66
*Pitt dropped to 20-7 overall on the season and 8-6 in the Atlantic Coast Conference with the loss. Meanwhile, Florida State extended its regular season record to 16-11, and improved to 7-8 in ACC play. Four regular season games remain for Pitt, including three on the road.
*The game against the Seminoles marked Senior Day at the Petersen Events Center. Pitt honored seniors Talib Zanna and Lamar Patterson. The senior duo is the 10th senior class in school history to win 100 or more games, and have been a part of five consecutive 20-win seasons.
*The Seminoles were nearly perfect from the free throw line, converting 27-31 attempts for a percentage of .871. It is FSU’s best free throw percentage performance on the season and its second most made free throws mark this year (converted 30 against Tennessee-Martin). It marks the first time this season that an opponent made more than 23 free throws against the Panthers (Maryland was 23-30 on January 25th).
*Lamar Patterson scored 22 points in the contest, the ninth time this season and the 10th time in his career that he has finished with more than 20 in a game. The performance also moved him past Levance Fields on Pitt’s all-time career scoring record list and into a tie for the No. 21 position with Jaron Brown at 1,258 points. His four 3-pointers matched his best mark on the season in that category (the seventh time he has made four in a game this year). He also contributed eight rebounds and five assists, only the fourth time this year that he was able to pull down eight or more rebounds.
*Senior Talib Zanna was dominant on the boards again, leading the way with 14 rebounds, five on the offensive end and nine on the defensive side. It is the most rebounds for a Panther in the 11-game series with the Seminoles. The performance also marked the ninth time in this season and the 19th time in his career that he amassed double digit rebounds.
*Cameron Wright provided scoring once again for the Panthers, totaling 12 points. It is the 15th time this season and the 19th time in his career that he has surpassed double figure scoring.
*The Panthers connected on eight of 18 three pointers on the evening, marking the sixth time this season that they have made eight or more triples in a game. It is the tenth time this season that Pitt has gone over 40% from behind the arc (44.4% vs. FSU).
*Freshman Michael Young had a quality night at the charity stripe, converting 5-6 attempts from the line. It is his second best night on the season in terms of free throws made (he was six of six against both Penn State on December 3rd, 2013 and Youngstown State on December 14th, 2013).
*Pitt hosted Florida State for the first time since Nov. 24, 2006 (W, 88-66 in the First Commonwealth Colonial Basketball Classic). Despite the loss, Pitt is now 9-2 in the all-time series, while the Seminoles broke the Panthers’ five game win streak in the series.
