Indiana 81, Pitt 69
•Pitt dropped to 4-3 on the year with an 81-69 loss to Indiana in Bloomington. The game was played as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Pitt was competing in the event for just the second time after it defeated Penn State last year.
•Pitt shot a season-low 36.1 percent (26-72) from the floor and a season-low 26.9 percent (7-26) from 3-point range. It outrebounded Indiana 44-36.
•Pitt was outscored 48-28 in points in the paint. Indiana shot 54.1 percent (33-61) for the game and 60.7 percent (17-28) in the first half alone.
•Indiana became just the seventh opponent to score over 80 points against Pitt in the last five seasons.
•Indiana defeated Pitt by 12 points. Since Jamie Dixon became head coach, only 28 of his 99 losses during his 12-year tenure have come by 10 or more points. Amazingly, Dixon has dropped 71 of his 99 losses by fewer than 10 points.
•Jamie Dixon dropped to 136-15 overall vs. non-conference foes.
•Pitt grabbed 25 offensive rebounds in the game, but converted just 14 second chance points. That marked Pitt’s second highest offensive rebound total this year behind a 27-rebound performance against Chaminade on Nov. 24.
•For the second time this year, Chris Jones led the Panthers in scoring. He totaled 18 points in 31 minutes and hit three consecutive 3-pointers in the first half. He also finished with a career-high 17 field goal attempts. His six rebounds also tied a career-high.
•Josh Newkirk totaled 16 points and eight assists in 34 minutes off the bench. His 16 points were a season high, his third double figure scoring game of the season and eighth of his career. His eight assists and 34 minutes played both tied career-highs. His seven field goals made and 13 attempts both tied career-highs and his six 3-point attempts were a career-high.
•With 12 rebounds, senior forward Derrick Randall totaled his second double digit rebounding game of the year. He grabbed 12 rebounds in only 15 minutes of action in his third consecutive start.
•With his 13 points, Michael Young totaled his fifth double figure scoring game of the season and 10th of his career. He has started 43 consecutive games.
•Pitt dropped to 4-5 all-time vs. Indiana.
