Pitt 81, Oakland 77 (OT)
•Pitt won its fourth consecutive game, improved to 5-0 at the Petersen Events Center and improved to 8-3 on the year with this afternoon’s 81-77 overtime win over Oakland.
•Pitt won its sixth consecutive overtime or double overtime game dating back to Jan. 12, 2013. The six overtime games include: 73-64 OT win over Villanova (March 3, 2013), 59-55 OT win at Miami (Feb. 5, 2014), 62-57 2OT win over Virginia Tech (Feb. 8, 2014), 85-81 OT win at Notre Dame (March 1, 2014), 87-78 OT win at Clemson (March 8, 2014) and today’s victory.
•The game marked the 10th overtime game in Petersen Events Center history and Pitt improved to 7-3 in PEC overtime games. It was the 97th all-time overtime time in school history. Pitt improved to 52-45 in overtime games.
•Today’s victory tied for the fourth largest deficit overcome to win with less than 7:00 to go in regulation in school history. The school-record for largest deficit overcome (with 7:00 to go in regulation) to win a game was 11 points at Syracuse on March 1, 2008. In that game, Pitt trailed 75-64 with 3:49 left in the game and ended up winning 82-77.
•For the second consecutive matchup against Oakland, Pitt battled back from a late deficit to win in overtime. In the last meeting on Nov. 17, 2012, Pitt battled back from an 18-point second half deficit (trailed 48-30 with 11:34 to go) and ended up winning 72-62 in overtime.
•Pitt won its 28th consecutive game against a non-conference opponent at home. Pitt improves to 115-3 all-time vs. non-conference opponents in the Petersen Events Center. Pitt has also won 136 of their last 140 home games against regular season non-conference opponents at home.
•With the win, Pitt improves to 198-27 all-time in the Petersen Events Center. Pitt now needs just two more victories to reach 200-win mark at the Petersen Events Center. It improves to 57-2 in December games played in the Petersen Events Center.
•Jamie Dixon improved to 296-99 all-time as a head coach in his 12th year at Pitt. He needs just four more wins to reach the 300-win plateau. Dixon improved to 140-15 overall vs. non-conference foes.
•Pitt committed a season-low five turnovers in the game. The five turnovers tied for the sixth fewest turnovers committed by Pitt in a game in school history. It was the fewest turnovers commited by the Panthers since it yielded three turnovers vs. Colorado last year in the NCAA Tournament. The two teams combined for just 14 turnovers.
•With his 16 points scored, Cameron Wright reached double figure scoring for the second consecutive game. It marked his 26th career double figure scoring game and second of the year. With Wright seeing action, Pitt is 4-0 on the year.
•Michael Young led Pitt in scoring for the fourth time this season with 19 points on 7-12 field goals. It marked his third consecutive double figure scoring game, 13th of his career and eighth of the year. He also totaled a career-high three blocked shots. Young played a career-high 41 minutes.
•James Robinson finished the game with 18 points (5-10 FG) and hit 8-8 free throws. It marked his 22nd career and sixth season double figure scoring game. His eight free throws made tied a career-high.
•Chris Jones registered 16 points (4-6 3FG) on the day, his fourth double digit scoring contest in his last five games. It marked his sixth career/season double figure scoring game. His five assists were a career-high.
•Pitt improved to 5-0 all-time vs. Oakland and 22-4 all-time vs. Horizon League opponents.
