PITTSBURGH—Pitt sophomore receiver Tyler Boyd has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Receiver of the Week for his performance in the Panthers' 30-7 victory over Syracuse this past weekend.
Boyd (Clairton, Pa./Clairton) had seven receptions for 126 yards (18.0 avg.) against the Orange and scored the game-clinching touchdown on a spectacular 49-yard catch-and-run.
With the Panthers protecting a 20-7 lead early in the fourth quarter, Boyd took a screen pass and sprinted through a cloud of defenders to the end zone. The play gave Pitt an insurmountable 20-point lead.
It marked the fourth consecutive game—and the fifth time on the season—that Boyd surpassed 100 yards receiving.
Over Pitt's past four contests, Boyd is averaging 7.0 catches for 140.8 yards.
Boyd has 1,077 receiving yards this year after compiling 1,174 as a freshman in 2013. He is the first player in ACC history to compile 1,000-yard receiving seasons in both his freshman and sophomore years.
Boyd also is just the second Pitt player to achieve two 1,000-yard receiving seasons in his career. He joins Larry Fitzgerald, who first accomplished the feat at Pitt in 2002 and 2003.
Boyd ranks among the most productive receivers in the ACC this season. He is second in receiving yards per game (97.9 avg.), third in receptions per game (5.8 avg.) and third in touchdown catches (seven).
The Panthers (5-6, 3-4 ACC) will play their regular-season finale this Saturday at Miami (6-5, 3-4), looking to earn bowl eligibility with a sixth victory. The game will be nationally televised by ESPN2 and kick off at 7 p.m.
