BRONX, N.Y. - The Pitt cross country season came to an end on Saturday, Nov. 22 at Van Cortlandt Park at the 2014 IC4A/ECAC Championships.
Three Panthers teams competed in the event, with the women splitting its squad into two different races. In the Championship Division, the Pitt women finished fifth while the men were 10th. In the women's Coaches Race, Pitt placed five runners in the top eight to breeze to a win in that competition.
Pitt's women, who totaled 135 points in its fifth place showing, were led by junior Hillary Boxheimer for the fifth straight time that she's participated in a race. Her time of 18:03.1 put her eighth overall in a field of 98 runners.
In her final collegiate race, senior Morgan Perry took 21st with a time of 18:27.3. Behind Boxheimer and Perry were junior Alexandra Cady, sophomore Dee Dee Adams and freshman Melanie Vlasic all within 11 seconds of each other. Cady was 33rd with a time of 18:44.0, followed by Adams (18:48.0) in 35th and Vlasic (18:54.9) in 38th.
Sophomore Wes Roberts was the first Panthers runner to cross the finish line for the first and only time this season, coming in 52nd place with a time of 26:29.0. The remaining four Pitt point scorers all finished within 15 seconds of Roberts as the Panthers runners kept a tight pack throughout the race.
After Roberts was sophomore Perry Equals, who posted a personal best 8K time of 26:38.1 for 60th place. Next in line was freshman Cordon Louco in 62nd place with a time of 26:38.6, while sophomore Chris Montgomery (26:39.7) and freshman Ryan Hughes (26:41.3) rounded out the top-five in 64th and 68th place, respectively.
Senior Cullen Davis placed 78th in a time of 26:52.6 in his final collegiate competition.
The Panthers had little opposition from its opponents in the Coaches' Race as Pitt tallied 19 team points and second-place Marist had 52.
Freshman Caroline DeFrank became the fourth Pitt individual this season and first female to win a race, taking the top spot in a time of 19:37.8. Former Pitt women's soccer player senior Dana DelleFemine, who competed in her final race, was less than a second behind in 19:38.5. Sophomore Karli O'Neill gave the Panthers the top three places with her time of 20:04.9.
Juniors Deanna Felicissimo (20:12.7) and Karli Buescher (20:38.1) notched the win for Pitt by placing fifth and eighth, respectively.
Columbia swept the Championship Division on both the men's and women's side with the men scoring 65 points and the women racking up 49 as both squads claimed their first IC4A and ECAC titles. Princeton's Michael Sublette (24:57.0) and Villanova's Stephanie Schappert (17:42.4) were the men and women's winners, respectively.
