Niagara at Pitt • Petersen Events Center • November 14, 2014
Pitt 78, Niagara 45
•Pitt registered a 33-point victory over Niagara in its season opening game. Pitt opens its 108th season of men’s basketball.
•Pitt won its 24th consecutive game against a non-conference opponent at home. Pitt improves to 111-3 all-time vs. non-conference opponents in the Petersen Events Center. Pitt has also won 132 of their last 136 home games against regular season non-conference opponents at home.
•Pitt earned its 18th consecutive season-opening victory since 1997. Pitt improves to 75-33 all-time in its 108 season openers. Pitt also moved to 65-14 all-time home season openers, while Jamie Dixon is now 12-0 on opening night.
•With the win, Pitt improves to 194-27 all-time in the Petersen Events Center. Pitt now needs just six more victories to reach 200-win mark at the Petersen Events Center. It improves to 53-1 all-time in November games in the Petersen Events Center.
•Jamie Dixon improved to 289-96 all-time as a head coach in his 12th year at Pitt. He needs just 11 more wins to reach the 300-win plateau.
•Pitt held Niagara to 25 percent (12-48) shooting for the contest. The 25 percent shooting marked the fourth lowest field goal percentage for a Pitt opponent in school history: .235, New Hampshire, 12/4/09; .239, Ohio, 12/22/09; .246, Indiana, Pa., 11/29/86. Niagara’s 12 field goals tied for the sixth fewest field goals made by a Pitt opponent in school history. Niagara’s zero 3-pointers made also tied an opponent school record for fewest 3-pointers made in a game.
•Junior Joseph Uchebo (center) and sophomores Jamel Artis (forward) and Chris Jones (guard) all made their first career starts tonight. Sophomore Michael Young made his 37th consecutive and junior James Robinson started his 55th consecutive game and 69th of out 70 career contests.
•Sophomore Jamel Artis finished with a career-high 14 points. He also surpassed or tied career-highs for field goals made/attempts (6-9), 3-point field goals made (2) and assists (4). He also played a career-high 31 minutes. Artis registered his third career-double figure scoring game.
•Sophomore Chris Jones finished with a career-high 10 points. He also surpassed or tied career-highs for field goals made/attempts (4-7) and 3-point field goals made/attempts (2-3). It was his first career double figure scoring game.
•Freshman Cameron Johnson saw his first career action as a Panther. He reached double figure scoring (11 points) on 4-5 shooting and converted a 3-pointer.
•With his 12 points, sophomore Josh Newkirk notched his sixth career double figure scoring contest.
•Junior Joseph Uchebo grabbed a career-high eight rebounds.
•Sophomore Sheldon Jeter saw his first action in a Pitt uniform, registering seven points and three rebounds.
•Pitt improved to 2-2 all-time vs. Niagara. The last time Pitt played Niagara was on Dec. 2, 1975, 78-69 Niagara victory.
