
Pitt Men's Soccer Hosts Pitt/Nike Invitational This Weekend

PITTSBURGH - Pitt men's soccer continues its homestand this weekend as it hosts the Pitt/Nike invitational at Ambrose Urbanic Field at the Petersen Sports Complex. The Panthers will entertain IPFW, Delaware, and Duquesne in the two-day tournament. Fans can follow action on GameTracker available on www.pittsburghpanthers.com. Pitt (1-0-2) is coming off a 1-1 double overtime draw against Saint Francis on Saturday, Sept. 1, in its home opener. Junior forward Nico Wrobel - who led the team in points and goals a season ago - scored his first goal of the 2012 campaign versus the Red Flash. The rebound tally was the first goal scored on Saint Francis in an eight-game span.
Goalkeeper Lee Johnston recorded six saves versus the Red Flash, raising his season total to 12. The sophomore leads the Big East in saves per game (4.00).
The Panthers tangle with IPFW (0-3) on Friday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the first match between these teams.
The Mastodons are paced by freshman midfielder Jack Tooke who has recorded five shots on the season. IPFW suffered a 1-0 defeat at Marshall on Monday, Sept. 3 in its last game.
In the first contest of the Pitt/Nike Invitational on Friday, Duquesne (1-2) and Delaware (0-3) will face off at 5 p.m. Duquesne dropped a 1-0 decision against Penn State on Friday, Aug. 31 in its last outing. A-10 Offensive Player of the Year forward Joshua Patterson has two goals and an assist in three games.
Pitt will take on Delaware in its second matchup of the tournament on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 2:30 p.m. The Panthers and the Blue Hens will also face each other for the first time in program history.
After capturing a 1-0 win over Howard to start its season, Delaware has lost its past two games - most recently a 2-1 decision at Duke on Sunday. The Blue Hens have been outscored, 9-1, to start the season.
Duquesne will face IPFW in the first match on Sunday as game action begins at noon.
