
Panthers Begin Competition at Penn Relays

PITTSBURGH-The University of Pittsburgh women’s track and field team opened competition at the Penn Relays on Thursday with a strong showing at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa.
The 400-meter relay team of sophomore Jordan Hoyt, juniors Arielle Fonrose and Ashley Woodford and senior Cambrya Jones finished 12th with a mark of 45.98. The relay teams’ finish qualifies it for the ECAC Final on Friday at 1:10 p.m.
Individually, junior Elizabeth Kline turned in a strong performance in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.22 in a very competitive field.
The meet, which will run through Sunday, has been held annually since 1895 and has been the most-attended track meet in the nation in recent history and also one of the best attended in the world.
The Penn Relays is the longest uninterrupted track meet in the country and has over 22,000 entries in this year’s meet that plays host to high school, college and professional events.
The men’s track and field team will begin competition on Friday in the first event of the day as seniors Jermaine Lowery and Jerome Lowery will compete in the 400-meter hurdles at 9:00 a.m.
