VILLANOVA, Pa. - Pitt men's soccer dropped its final game of the 2012 season, falling 4-0 at Villanova on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Dan Lynd earned the start in goal for the second straight game, posting seven saves.
The Panthers (6-9-2, 0-8-0 Big East) were out-shot, 24-8, in the contest. Only one of the eight attempts was on-goal for Pitt as they could not muster an offensive surge.
The Wildcats (11-5-2, 3-3-2) secured the game-winner in the 22nd minute from senior Ryan Whalen - his second goal of the season.
Pitt had its best opportunity of the day come from defender Alex Fischetti, who blasted a ball from 24 yards out which just sailed over the box.
The game remained tight - despite the shot differential - until the closing minutes. The second tally came in the 84th minute, a goal off a rebound which settled top shelf. That score began a string of three goals in an seven-minute span.
A first half goal by senior Ryan Whalen gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead midway through the period and Villanova improved to 9-0 this season when scoring first. Three more goals came in a flurry in the game's final eight minutes.
