PITTSBURGH - Pitt freshman gymnast Haley Bodenheimer has been named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League's Rookie of the Week after her performance against No. 11 Ohio State last weekend.
Bodenheimer (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) was honored with the award after winning the all-around competition (tie) in Pitt's meet against the Buckeyes. In the latest rankings, Bodenheimer is ranked first on the floor in the EAGL, as well as in the NCAA Northeast Region. Additionally, in the all-around, as a freshman, she is ranked fourth in the EAGL.
Against Ohio State, Bodenheimer scored a 38.825 in the all-around to tie Ohio State's Colleen Dean for first place, which was led by her meet-high score of 9.850 on the floor. The rookie also posted scores of 9.625 on the vault, 9.675 on the uneven bars and 9.675 on the balance beam.
Bodenheimer's accomplishments are all the more impressive due to the fact that she was delayed three weeks of training to start her collegiate debut, due to her tonsils being removed. She is one event away from being back to full strength and is on target to do so this weekend when the Panthers host George Washington, Rutgers and William & Mary.
This week, Bodenheimer was voted by her teammates as the Panther Gymnast of the Week, along with senior Alicia Talucci, for her contributions in the meet.
Bodenheimer and the Panthers will host the quad meet on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Fitzgerald Field House.
