Broyles, Jones Lead Panthers at Akron Invitational

PITTSBURGH- The Pitt women's track and field team posted a strong at the Akron Invitational this past weekend as they prepare for the upcoming BIG EAST Indoor Championships.
Senior Brianna Broyles and junior Cambrya Jones highlighted the women's team for the Panthers with first place finishes. Broyles won the 60M hurdles (8.33) while Jones crossed the finish line first in the 200M dash (24.13). Both athletes competed in the upper-tier gold division.
The Panthers relay team of sophomore Arielle Fonrose, freshman Jordan Hoyt, sophomore Jonnique Lawrence and freshman Jordan Lee crossed the finish line third in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:47.61.
Three athletes set career bests at the meet, including Hoyt, sophomore Ashley Woodford and senior Lanesha Pugh.
Woodford finished fourth in the 60M dash event with a time of 7.56 while Pugh earned a fifth place finish at 7.59. Jones' finish of third gave the Panthers three of the top five spots.
Hoyt competed in the 200M dash event, racing to an all-time best mark of 24.73.
Junior Miya Johnson claimed second place for the Panthers in the 800M run with a time of 2:14.40.
Freshman Susannah Feinstein also finished in second place after crossing the finish line at 10:21.44 in the 3000M run.
In the long jump, senior Wunmi Fapohunda soared to a season best distance of 5.56m, finished second overall.
Lee also set a season best in the 400M dash. She placed sixth in the event with a time of 58.22.
The women's team returns to Akron this upcoming week for the BIG EAST Indoor Championships. The two day event begins Saturday, Feb. 19 and concludes on Sunday, Feb. 20.
