PITTSBURGH - The University of Pittsburgh men's soccer team will host several camps and clinics this winter in the Charles L. Cost Indoor Sport Center located on the University of Pittsburgh upper campus. Pitt's men's soccer head coach Joe Luxbacher and a staff of qualified coaches will be on hand to offer numerous camps to fit different age groups and skill levels.
The Shoot to Score Academy camps include: College Prospect Academy (Dec. 18) and Goal Scorer and Goalkeeper Academy (Dec. 27-28). All camps will be directed by well-qualified and experienced coaches as well as outstanding collegiate and high school athletes.
The College Prospect Academy will take place on Sunday, Dec. 18 from 12-3 p.m. at the Charles L. Cost Indoor Sport Center. The camp is designed for boys in grades 9-12 who are interested in competing at the collegiate level. This session is open for field players and goalkeepers and will provide players with a highly competitive training environment and introduce them to the dynamics of the college game. Players will be coached by the University of Pittsburgh coaching staff and a brief College and Recruiting and Compliance Seminar will be held at the conclusion of the camp.
The Goal Scorer and Goalkeeper Academy will be held on December 27 and 28. The camp has two groups, the Striker Elite Goal Scorer Academy and the #1 Goalkeeper Academy. The Striker Elite Goal Scorer Academy is intended for boys and girls ages 8-15. Fundamental striking of the ball will be emphasized, as well as shooting off the dribble, shooting off the give and go, shooting off the turn and heading to score. The focus is on creating and finishing scoring opportunities.
The second part of this camp will be the #1 Goalkeeper Academy. This camp is designed for boys and girls ages 8-15. Keepers will be coached on receiving and holding low, medium and high balls, diving techniques and methods of distribution. Goalkeeper training will also be combined with shooting exercises to establish a game-simulated practice atmosphere.
