Pitt Wrestling Ranked 15th in Preseason National Rankings

PITTSBURGH –The Pitt wrestling team is ranked as high as 15th in the numerous preseason national rankings. Additionally, eight different student-athletes represent the Panthers in the individual polls.
The Panthers have been picked as a top-25 team in all of the notable polls. The selection at 15th came in the list done by WrestlingReport.com.
Senior Tyler Nauman is the highest ranked Pitt wrestler this preseason. The three-time national qualifier is listed as high as third and appears in the top 10 in every list at 149 pounds.
Redshirt junior Matt Wilps and senior Zac Thomusseit join Nauman with a ranking in the top 10. Wilps has been selected as high as fifth while Thomusseit appears as high as sixth. Both wrestlers appear in the rankings at two different weights, 197 and heavyweight.
Anthony Zanetta is ranked as high as 14th and named as a top-20 wrestler in nearly every poll. He has proven to be clutch for the Panthers, winning conference titles in each of his first two seasons.
Sophomore Max Thomusseit (17th at 184), senior Ethan Headlee (21st at 165), sophomore Shelton Mack (26th at 133), and redshirt junior Donnie Tasser (33rd at 157) round out the Pitt wrestlers recognized in the national polls.
Pitt qualified eight wrestlers to the national tournament on its way to a 34th-place finish last season. The Panthers dominated the Eastern Wrestling League, posting their second consecutive undefeated season in the conference before winning their first EWL tournament title.
The Panthers open the season on Sunday, Nov. 6 at the Buffalo Open.
