PITTSBURGH—After earning all-district honors in May, senior Jonathan Buchanan of Pitt’s men swimming and diving team garnered accolades on the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Men’s At-Large Third Team, as announced by CoSIDA on Tuesday.
Buchanan (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) was honored on the 17-memeber all-academic team after being named an all-district first team selection, a few weeks ago. He is just one of three Big East student-athletes mentioned on the University Division list.
Buchanan carried a 3.95 cumulative GPA in engineering. He maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA, while setting the school record in the 200 IM, and earning All-Big East honors.
In 2009, Buchanan was named the Big East/Aeropostale Swimming and Diving Institutional Scholar. That same year, he was also recognized at the season-ending swimming and diving team banquet for having the highest overall GPA on the team.
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America teams are made up of athletes with at least a 3.2 GPA, of sophomore status and participated in at least 50 percent of all the team's competitions during the season.
