Pitt's 4x800 Relay Team Places Second at ECACs

BOSTON, Mass.—Of the 51 schools represented, Pitt men’s track and field team tied for 17th at the 2010 ECAC Indoor Championships, hosted by Boston University.
Earning the best finish of the meet, Pitt’s 4x800 team of sophomores Greg Kareis, Dontave Cowsette, Ben Hatch and Elliot Rhodes combined for a second-place finish of 7:29.12. The squad dropped nearly six seconds off its winning prelim time, coming out of the first heat.
Individually, Kareis was 13th overall in the mile run. Then, Rhodes was 12th in the 800M run, while Hatch and Cowsette went 37th and 38th, respectively.
Freshman Tashaun Hill recorded the top individual finish, as he improved to seventh in the finals of the 55M hurdles with at time of 7.56. That same time earned him a third-place finish in his heat of the semifinals after placing ninth in the prelims.
In the jumps, sophomore Folarin Ijelu took fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 14.94M. Additionally, senior Brandon Turner was 11th with a jump of 14.18M in the same event.
Senior Sam Perkins rounded out the Panthers with a 22nd–place finish in the 55M dash.
Post-season action continues, as the Panthers set to compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13.
