Softball Falls to Quinnipiac

CLEARWATER, Fla.—After waiting an extra day to get action started, Pitt’s softball team fell 3-0 to Quinnipiac in their first game of the USF Under Armour Classic, held at Eddie C. Moore Field. The Panthers slipped to 6-8 overall.
Junior Alyssa O’Connell pitched a shutout through five innings, until giving up three runs off a homer in the sixth inning. O’Connell tied a season-high, fanning six batters in the contest. She leads the team with 24 strikeouts on the year.
At the plate, junior Ashley Amistade recorded a hit in the fourth inning.
Defensively, sophomore Kristen Cheesebrew recorded four putouts and three assists in the game.
The Panthers face Drake in their second game of the day.
