PITTSBURGH -- The University of Pittsburgh men's soccer team continues to pile on the awards this postseason, led by senior Matt Baker's selection to the Big East Institutional Male Scholar Athlete team.
Baker, a senior midfielder from Bethlehem, Pa., was one of four soccer players to make the 15-member team.
The nomination marked the second such conference honor the Panthers have earned from the Big East. Pitt was awarded the league's first Fair Play Award this year, given annually to the team with the lowest total fouls and cards. The Panthers totaled only 102 fouls and 10 yellow cards during conference play this year.
Baker was also an instrumental part in the Pitt men's soccer team winning the Top Men's Academic award at the Student-Athlete Award Breakfast. The team boasted a collective 3.08 GPA to take the top honor.
