McIntosh Earns All-Big East Honors

NEW YORK, N.Y.—Freshman Rachael McIntosh earned All-Big East honors on the first day of the 2010 Indoor Big East Championships. Pitt’s women’s track and field team is currently in ninth place.
In her first-ever Big East Championships, McIntosh earned All-Big East honors in the pentathlon, placing third with 3,723 points. Her best event of the day was the 800M run, where she took second at 2:21.18.
Trailing McIntosh, junior Kaitlyn Flynn qualified for the ECACs in the pentathlon, scoring 3,464 points. She finished sixth overall in the event.
Qualifying for the finals of the 60M dash, junior Da’Lynn Mills and sophomore Cambrya Jones recorded fifth and sixth-place performances. Mills crossed the finish line at 7.55, while Jones clocked in at 7.57.
Later, Mills finished fifth in the 200M dash (24.29) and Jones was eighth (24.31), as each qualified for the finals of that event.
Just missing the finals, senior Brianna Broyles and freshman Brittany Carroll finished ninth and 10th in the prelims of the 60M hurdles. Additionally, junior Jazmin Hunt recorded a 13th-place finish in the 60M hurdles.
Recording a top-10 finish, junior Kayla Comrie finished ninth in the weight throw and senior Erinn McMahon was 10th in the pentathlon.
In the 400M dash, senior Kaetlyn Brown recorded an 11th-place finish with a time of 56.31.
Additionally, junior Wunmi Fapohunda turned in a 13th-place performance in the long jump, while sophomore Miya Johnson was 13th in the 800M run.
Action resumes Sunday morning at the New Balance Track and Field Center at 8 a.m.
