Ijelu Earns All-Big East Honors

NEW YORK, N.Y.—Sophomore Folarin Ijelu earned All-Big East honors, as Pitt’s men’s track and field team finished 10th with 31 points in the 2010 Indoor Big East Championships, held at the New Balance Track and Field Center.
Ijelu earned the best finish of the meet for Pitt, as he placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 15.28M. His jump was also an IC4A qualifying standard.
Next, freshman Tashaun Hill improved upon his prelim time in the 60M hurdles, earning a fourth-place finish of 8.03.
In another top-five performance, sophomore Dontave Cowsette finished fourth in the 800M run, posting a time of 1:52.86. Additionally, classmate Elliot Rhodes improved to seventh in the finals of the same event, crossing the finish line at 1:53.62.
Junior Garrett Larkin hurled the shot put 16.65M for a fifth-place finish. He was also ninth in the weight throw.
Finishing eighth in the finals of the mile run, sophomore Greg Kareis turned in an IC4A finish of 4:13.21.
Later, the 4x800 relay team of Kareis, sophomore Ben Hatch, Rhodes and Cowsette placed fifth with an IC4A time of 7:35.02.
Pitt’s 4x400 relay team claimed an IC4A and ninth-place time of 3:18.24. The squad was made up of sophomores Jermaine Lowery and Jerome Lowery, freshman Wesley Washington and freshman Caleb Matthews.
Rounding out the top 10 finishes, senior Brandon Turner also competed in the triple jump and recorded a 10th-place finish.
