Women's Track and Field Records 16 Big East Qualifying Marks, Wins Seven Events at Kent State Gala

PITTSBURGH - The Pitt women's track and field team won seven events and recorded 16 Big East qualifying times at the Kent State Gala this weekend.
Eight different Panthers recorded two top-5 finishes, as the team recorded 20 top-five finishes overall.
Redshirt senior Kaetlyn Brown earned two first-place finishes, including the 500M run with a Big East qualifying mark of 1:15.41. Brown also was part of the winning 4x400M relay team accompanied by senior Brianna Broyles and sophomores Arielle Fonrose and Jonnique Lawrence.
Individually, Broyles won the 60M hurdles (8.50) while Fonrose placed third in the 500M run, finishing at 1:17.03. Both times were conference qualifying standards. Lawrence finished second in the 300M dash, bested only by current Pitt assistant coach Shantea Calhoun.
The Panthers had three athletes qualify for the conference meet in both the 60M and 200M events. Leading the way, junior Cambrya Jones posted two second-place finishes in both the 60M (7.52) and 200M (24.22) dashes.
Senior Da'Lynn Mills won the 200M dash when she stopped the clock at 24:21, while placing third in the 60M dash (7.64). Sophomore Ashley Woodford added fourth-place finishes in both the 60M dash (7.67) and 200M dash (25:12).
Pitt swept the triple jump, as each earned Big East qualifying marks. Freshmen Ashley Corum led the Panthers with a leap of 11.84M. Classmate Julia Koloski turned in a distance of 11.62M, while senior Wunmi Fapohunda placed (11.41M).
Next, senior Anita James won the long jump with a Big East standard of 5.56M. Placing second in the same event was redshirt senior Shanae' Thomas, who turned in a conference mark of 5.55M.
Also qualifying for the Big East meet, seniors Sarah Anderson and Alex Wilder hurled the weight throw distances of 16.65M and 15.35M, respectively.
Rounding out the Panthers with top-five finishes were junior Miya Johnson (1,000M run), sophomore Elizabeth Kline (pentathlon) and freshman Jordan Lee (500M run).
The Panthers will take a break for finals and the holidays, but resume action on Jan. 8 at the Penn State Relays.
