Cruz Named John Mackey Tight End of the Week

PITTSBURGH--Pitt sophomore tight end Mike Cruz has been named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week for his performance in the Panthers' 41-21 victory over Rutgers, it was announced today by the Nassau County Sports Commission.
Cruz (Johnstown, Pa./Bishop McCort) had two catches against Rutgers - both going for touchdowns. His first scoring reception was a 3-yarder that tied the game, 7-7, in the opening period. His other TD was an 11-yard reception that gave Pitt the lead for good, 21-14, in the third quarter.
The 6-foot-5, 255-pound Cruz contributed to an offensive effort that produced 513 yards, the Panthers' highest single-game production since 2005.
On the season, Cruz has eight receptions for 77 yards (9.6 avg.) and two scores.
Pitt (4-3, 2-0 Big East) will host Louisville (4-3, 1-1) this Saturday, Oct. 30, at Heinz Field. The contest will have a noon kickoff and be televised by ESPN Regional as the "Big East Network Game of the Week" (WTAE-TV, channel 4, in Pittsburgh).
