Men's Cross Country Finishes Third at Cappy Anderson Invitational

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.—Four men finish in the top 20, as the University of Pittsburgh men’s cross country team finished third at the 2009 Cappy Anderson Invitational, held at Maryland-Eastern Shore. Pitt’s women recorded a fifth-place finish, out of the nine teams competing.
Pitt’s men finished third out of 11 teams, averaging a time of 26:10.71, which was nearly 40 seconds more than the first place team.
Greg Karies was the first to cross the finish line for the Panthers, stopping the clock at 25:57.59 for 18th overall.
Following Karies, Teddy Miller and Joshua Christopher finished in the top 25, with times of 25:59.78 and 26:04.51, respectively.
Recording a top 30 time, Sam Weiser placed 29th at the 26:21.36 mark.
Later, Pitt’s women combined for a final time of 1:42:01.28, averaging times of 20:24.26.
Myia Johnson was the first to finish for Pitt, crossing the line at 18:49.50 for 23rd overall.
Finishing next, Alyssa Kunkel and Rachel Hess placed in the top 35, while Rachel Erny was 36th overall at 20:56.12.
The Panthers return to action on Friday, Oct. 2, in the Paul Short Invitational held in Bethlehem, Pa.
